I've always loved painting and drawing people. My earlier works focus
mostly on romantic love and loss. There is something compelling about
the idea of love and death that keeps our attention; for example the
classic story of Romeo and Juliette. I titled this show Leibostad, ( a
german word meaning Love/Death,) and I borrowed from some religious
traditions of Christ with a heart exposed. I meant the exposed organs to
symbolise corresponding emotions. My Madonna and Child series also
borrows from religious iconography, with gold leaf halos and the classic
woman with child. I hope to show the divine in the ordinary, and convay
something of the Universal Woman in these works.
